What Is Implant Restoration?

Find out how a dental crown is used to complete a dental implant.

A dental implant is a long-term solution for replacing missing teeth. To get a dental implant, a small metal screw or post will need to first be placed into the jawbone where your tooth once was. Once the implant and jawbone naturally fuse then a dental crown or an implant restoration, will need to be placed by our Reno, NV, dentist Dr. Michael Herrera in order to complete the restoration.

What is the purpose of implant restoration?

The dental implant, which is an artificial tooth root, isn’t the part of the false tooth that’s visible when you smile. The implant itself will lie within the jawbone. Of course, for a dental implant to resemble a tooth it needs to actually look like a tooth. This is where our Reno, NV, dental team comes in to provide implant restorations.

Dr. Herrera and his team will craft a beautiful, lifelike dental crown to cover the implant. It will be cemented into place over the implant to complete the restoration and the crown will even match the shape, size, and color of the rest of your smile so that no one will even be able to tell the difference between your implant restoration and your natural teeth. If you need to replace an entire arch of teeth, we can also craft dentures or bridges to attach to the top of your implants to give you a full, beautiful smile once again.

How do I care for an implant restoration?

As with any dental restoration, it’s important that you are gentle with it to prevent damage. While crowns are made from porcelain, which is an incredibly durable material, it can still be damaged (just like teeth can!). This is why you will want to avoid using your teeth as tools. Fortunately, cleaning your implant is fairly simple. You don’t have to treat it differently than the rest of your teeth. You can brush and floss it just like you normally would. Just make sure to keep it clean and to visit our Reno, NV, dental team twice a year for checkups to make sure your implant and implant restorations are healthy.

If you have questions about implant restorations, or if you want to find out if an implant is right for you, our Reno, NV, family dentist Dr. Herrera would be happy to sit down with you to answer your questions about a dental implant. Call Herrera Dental Practice at (775) 825-9233 to learn more.
